WARNING! |
Abyss Dancer (심연의 무희), also known by her real name, Roxanne, was a prominent Villain and the former right-hand of Engen, the Smiling Man in the era of Nera over a century ago.
A powerful Gift user of deadly fame, Roxanne swore her loyalty to Engen during the War of Inheritance as they grew to be friends and comrades in arms. She sided with Engen and the remaining remnants of Nera as they fought against the Hero Clan during which she became known as The Shadow of the Smiling Man but abandoned him before their bitter defeat in the Great War.
Unlike her old friends who retired from public life, Abyss remained active in the Age of Heroes and Villains as she led her own group of Villains and was an ally to the Nameless as a "weapon" for Engen after betraying him. During the Invasion of Castle Gray, Abyss gave her life to create a "path" for Engen to walk on with her blood.
Abyss was introduced initially in the District 17 Assault Arc from a camo of the Great War between the Villains and Hero Clan and a short explanation of Gifts. She made her official appearance in The Torch Arc, where she answered Engen's call of Villains to help in taking The Torch from the Hero Clan.
Appearance[]
Abyss Dancer was a woman with dark black long hair and bangs in her humanoid or primary form. She had pupilless white eyes and wore a veil that covered her face along with a tattered black cape. Her fingers took the form of long sharp blood red colored talons. She spoke entirely in the Unknown Language that only a few people understood.
In her Sanjiva form, Roxanne was a giant, black-colored serpent which might take the appearance of a mythical reptile such as a lindworm or a wyrm with giant red claw-like blade tendrils. She had no teeth and just a large caving beak which she could presumably use for impaling, drilling or grabbing. Her complete form seems to be able to levitate and fly at alarming speeds, being capable of destroying the ground around her when she crashed into it. The base of her jawline has a pair of 5 appendages tipped with red blades.
Personality[]
Abyss showed great loyalty towards Engen having been known across the world as his right-hand and "shadow". After witnessing the Steel Witch's power she became fearful of the Witch but still continued to support Engen. Even after abandoning him during the war, she answered his call to attack the Hero Clan and willingly gave up her freedom in just becoming a "weapon" for him.
History[]
Roxanne's entire early life wasn't fully known in detail, but she was mostly likely born after the Chaotic Era. A powerful Gift user, Roxanne would become infamous for killing anyone with her own hands that beheld her true form and gained a reputation for hating her transformed state.[1]
It's unknown when but Roxanne met Engen, a candidate for the throne of Nera during the War of Inheritance. Having seen Engen's boldness in achieving his objectives and conviction towards life even in the face of immense adversity, Roxanne grew to admire him and would swear her loyalty towards the would be king alongside Nugal, another powerful Gift user.
She became a core member in Engen's group of followers in the war and fought in many battles together alongside Chain, another candidate and Engen's partner. She would become Engen's right arm and the most dedicated amongst his followers. The war eventually ended with Engen's victory and the previous King of Nera dying. In the following three days after Engen assumed the throne and was ready to inherit the The Torch, a woman appeared who called herself The Steel Witch. She would kill everyone in the area in a mere second and destroy the Torch.[2]
Roxanne was traumatized from the entire experience, but she still continued to support Engen. Nera, while no longer at its peak, was still strong enough to fight for a place of dominance in the world. [3]
After the time in which the Witch appeared, certain rumors started to spread around the same time. A man known as the Skysword had gained the attention of the world as he killed numerous district lords and defeated one of the Elders, Yushin in a duel. The Skysword had gain enough power to form an organization called the Hero Clan based around his fame. It was only matter of time until the clan, having operated underneath the banner of justice, clashed with Engen and the remaining remnants of Nera in what would be called the War of the Reeds or the Great War.
Abyss fought alongside Engen and their comrades in numerous battles during the war as his right arm, but they would be defeated once again after losing two major battles in the war. Roxanne would fall into despair while Engen kept fighting, leading to her deserting and abandoning him. The word of "Nera" ceased to exist with the clan banning its name after their victory. Roxanne's activities after the war fully known but she was counted amongst the Nameless, the survivors of the war.
