I've been called a Hero...But I've never actually done anything Heroic. Is this karma?

— Heavy Smoker's final thoughts before his death.

Heavy Smoker was a member of the Hero Clan and the chief manager of its 17th Division for District 17 that ran the clan's interest and operations in the district as well as the leader of the heroes that operated within Dust City and other cities. During the Nameless's attack on their HQ, he fought their leader the Smiling Man, Engen in a one-on-one fight in wanting to put down the infamous villain but instead was killed by him.

Before becoming the leader of the 17th Division, Heavy Smoker served as a soldier for the clan in the waning days of the Great War alongside Chaos as they fought against the Villains of Nera over a decade ago.

Heavy Smoker was introduced in the District 17 Assault Arc as a central antagonist aside from Chaos and Victoria. He makes brief appearances throughout the other story arcs in flashbacks and mentioned by other characters.

Appearance[]

Heavy Smoker was a heavy-set man and rather tall man, slightly taller than Chaos and Engen. His overall appearance didn't change much from his younger days, but he used to be slimmer and leaner than present day as he gained weight with inactivity from field work and was always seen smoking a large cigar within the width of his finger.

When not smoking the cigar, he often held its between his fingers and used it in his battle, hence his hero codename "Heavy Smoker". He wore a fancy storm gray tuxedo-like with a fashionable white dress shirt but used to wear the standard uniform of the Hero Clan back in the days of the Great War.

Personality[]

Heavy Smoker came off as arrogant and cocky man with a stubborn streak to add to his personality but inside, he had a self-abasement of himself and missed being on the battlefield as things were simpler to him instead of deskwork.

He was a cynical man that formed his overall views in the Great War as he believed that there isn't difference between Good and Evil. And that the Hero Clan is the "stronger evil" than the Villains. He was willing to numb himself to the clan's "evils" even if it meant killing children in the process as along as it meant reaching the top then nothing there can't do but become a "Cog" in the machine that is Hero Clan which he told to his fellow hero Chaos.[1] He maintained these views even up to his death as considered himself to be "no different from a villain" at that point.[2]

In battle, he retained his cocky, arrogant attitude and underestimated his opponent which nearly got him killed years ago during if not for Chaos. He usually toyed with his opponents to confuse them. However, when he realizes his opponents are stronger than him, he would get frantic and panicky, hence taking the battle more seriously.

History[]

Heavy Smoker joined the Hero Clan at the beginning of the organization's spreading influence and fought for the clan during the days of the Great War. He met and became acquainted with Jeremy Bernstein, another member of the clan, as they fought together in multiple battles.

Heavy Smoker Confronts Chaos

In opposite to Jeremy's views on "Justice", Heavy Smoker only saw the war as act of conflict between two greater "evils" and was willing to commit to said "evil" if it meant staying alive. He would admonish Jeremy for it when he was suddenly ambushed by a surviving child soldier of the Villain group they had just destroyed but Jeremy's shoved him out of the way only to end up getting stabbed by the young girl as Smoker knocks her out. Before he can finish her off, Jeremy fires his gun into the air to stop him. Smoker, annoyed further, tells Jeremy that their fight isn't between "Good" and "Evil". That they're all "Evil". And the clan just happens to be the stronger "Evil" which was more preferrable than the previous Chaotic Era and was willing to numb himself to it if it meant rising to the top of the machine known as the Hero Clan.

Smoker, in keeping with his views, rose through the ranks of the clan to eventually become the leader of his and Jeremy's unit, who would start to be referred to "Chaos" around this period. He also placed Kirine, the surviving Villain child soldier, under Chaos' observation.

Smoker eventually became the chief manager of the Hero Clan's 17th Division for District 17: Dust City in the time of the modern era. In the next ten years, he assigned Viper a talented new prospect from the clan to be Chaos new partner/sidekick. While Chaos wondered about his abilities and if he could even last a one year, Viper confidently assured the veteran that he could for far longer than ten. The two heroes would grow close as they fought together in numerous missions.
