Highnoon, also known by her real name Rebecca Bernstein, is a former member of the Hero Clan and the twin younger sister of Chaos. She worked closely with the Prosecutor, The Defender, and Crimson Dragon as they work together in District 16: Cloud Garden. During the Invasion of Castle Gray, she defected from the Hero Clan as a part of a deal made with Puppeteer in exchange for Prosecutor's safety.

Highnoon was first shown during the District 17 Assault Arc in a camo, but only was formally introduced in the Hero Candidate Arc.

Appearance[]

Highnoon tops an old-fashioned dark brown sombrero and wears a blue frilly blouse with an unnaturally exposed cleavage, dirty white sleeves and a wide brown belt, armed with handle-less blades. Like her brother, she has orange hair, freckles and heterochromia of ice-blue and lime green irises.

She sports 2 braids down each shoulder while the hair on her head is completely unbraided. She also has a build on the slim but curvy side.

Personality[]

Similar to her brother, Highnoon is a self-aware wild card that's earned a reputation for being crazy and eccentric. Despite being a hero, she has no true allegiance to the Hero Clan, but rather the friends and family she's made in it, with her decisions in life being made to protecting what she has the best she could.

Ironically, while being unpredictable herself, she does not like unpredictable variables, determining that Ihwa was one such variable and hoped to eliminate her.

History[]

The Bernsteins' Past

Rebecca being held by her brother, Jeremy.

Rebecca's entire early life isn't fully known but she was mostly likely born after the Chaotic Era. In her childhood, Rebecca and her older twin brother, Jeremy, once struggled to survive together.[1]

Not much else is currently known but the twins' life but they were living in Avaarin, the famed warrior nation and settlement of powerful warriors at one point in their youth. They formed a close friendship with a boy named Saulcai, the student of The Knight Commander of Avaarin, as they got to know the talented warrior with Rebecca and him eventually becoming lovers.

Rebecca would train as she wanted to be a warrior and sparred daily with other children but found that she had little talent for combat and failed to become a Avaarin warrior.

Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]

After the Smiling Man’s announcement of Nera’s resurrection and with civil war erupting in the clan, Narkle and Loyalists of the Master appeared before him. Consisting of The Punisher, Paladin, Azure Dragon, and Highnoon, the Master tasked them with stopping Engen and the Villains while he prepares to fight with Bishop.

Days later, the group easily cross the Forest of Immortals and Highnoon suddenly senses a change in the air. The Hero Task Force unexpectedly encounters Ijincheon, the Executioner of the Four Swordsmen. While the Punisher is weary of his sudden appearance to the point of drawing out her Gift, she tells him that the Hero Clan is curious about him and his strength as she briefly remembers his title as "The Incompetent One" amongst the previous Executioner's pupils, but Ijincheon brushes off her questions and tells them not to mind him as he’s just passing through.

As the Punisher remembers her shuttered memories, Ijincheon changes his mind and decides to tag along with the group of Heroes as they track down Engen and the Villains.

Etymology[]

  • The name Rebecca comes from the Hebrew name Rivkah. Most scholars suggest that it comes from the Hebrew root ר-ב-ק (R-B-Q), which can mean "to tie" or "to bind," possibly implying "captivating" or "a snare."
  • The surname Bernstein is of Ashkenazi Jewish origin. It is a German surname that translates to "amber" (a fossilized tree resin)
