WARNING! |
Han, also known as the Master of the Clan (클랜 마스터) and the Skysword of Yerim (예림의 하늘검) or simply the Skysword, is an exceptionally powerful Gift user and one of the Elders, the nine strongest Gift users in the world. He is the founder of the Hero Clan, the most dominant organization of Gift users, which governs a majority of the known world and its Districts. Han is also the mentor of Claymore, having trained the young swordsman in the art of the blade.
Beyond his role as an Elder and clan leader, Han is a renowned swordsman and a member of the Four Swordsmen, a title reserved for the strongest swordmasters in the world. He earned both distinctions after defeating Yushin in a legendary duel, a victory that cemented his reputation and led to the founding of the Hero Clan.
At the end of the Era of Nera, Han clashed with Engen and the remaining Villains of Nera, igniting a war that historians later named the War of the Reeds, also known as the Great War. Emerging victorious, Han and his allies ushered in the Age of Heroes and Villains, erasing "Nera"'s legacy by banning the very mention of its name.
The Master made his official appearance in the Nostra City Arc, attending the Elders Summit, where he formally began preparations for a civil war against Bishop.
Appearance[]
Han is a tall, muscular man with long white hair that cascades down to his waist and piercing silver-blue eyes. He typically maintains a composed stance, his hands resting at his sides, giving off an air of effortless authority.
He wears a traditional white robe layered over a lavender inner robe, secured with a light gray belt, resembling a hanbok. His footwear consists of taesahye-styled shoes matching the color scheme of his attire.
For formal occasions, Han opts for more refined clothing, and in his earlier years, he wore a standardized uniform featuring tan-colored pants and boots.
Personality[]
Han is a deeply inquisitive man, often questioning the relevance of his own position and pondering how individuals as old as the Elders continue to wield influence. He holds disdain for the Elders’ tendency to manipulate events for their own amusement, believing they should have remained detached from such affairs.
Despite adhering to the principles of an honorable swordsman, Han is a brutal and cold-hearted figure. He remains indifferent to the countless lives lost under the rule of his Hero Clan, instead contemplating the nature of Gift Users and the mysteries of their abilities.
His moral insensitivity is evident in his treatment of Claymore having openly praises his student’s improved skill, attributing it to the deaths of his fallen comrades. When Claymore rejects this idea, Han dismisses his concerns, calling those comrades mere "offerings" to perfect his swordsmanship. Claymore, in turn, was reminded that his master has always been this way.
Above all else, Han is driven by his personal vision of "justice" and the desire to see Claymore grow strong enough to uphold it. He remains unfazed by the sacrifices made along the way, fixated only on the pursuit of his ideals and his student’s development.
As a swordsman, Han deeply appreciates the romanticism of wielding a blade, valuing the artistry of swordsmanship despite possessing extraordinary abilities beyond the sword.[1]
History[]
The man who would one day be known as the Skysword and the Master of the Clan was born centuries ago during the Era of Nera. Found beside his mother's lifeless body, he was taken in and raised by five powerful sword masters who had once been defeated by Yushin of Yerim, an Elder and a member of the legendary Five Swordsmen.
These masters fostered and named him Han as they trained him with the hope that he would one day defeat the Elder. The boy grew to become a powerful swordsman who became known as the Skysword.

In the aftermath of the The Steel Witch's destruction and attack on Nera, the Skysword had visited a district lord to ask for help in fighting against the remaining remnants of the kingdom to stop their ambitions, but the Lord refused. The Skysword then subsequently requested a duel in a field of reeds and killed the lord with a single strike of his sword.
No one would take much interest in the incident as the changing of district leadership wasn't common. However, he continued defeating more and more lords while gaining more and more attention.

The Skysword would then seek out and challenge the old enemy of his teachers, Yushin the sword master of the Elders. With his disciple and Gundar, Yushin's assistant, acting as official witnesses, the duel lasted for over a week. Even though he seemed outmatched, Han had managed to grow stronger throughout the duel to a level close to the Elders and did not fall due to his tenacity, despite severe injuries.
On the seventh day, the Skysword was able to turn the tide; up until that point, he had been unable to injure Yushin at all and was waiting to exploit Yushin's habit of going for the neck when trying to deliver a killing blow. This, coupled with the fact that the Skysword had reached the level of the Elders during the duel itself, led to the Skysword winning by severely injuring Yushin's legs.[2]
Han's victory against Yushin.
The Skysword's reputation skyrocketed from his victory against Yushin, one of the strongest warriors in the world, and his acquisition of multiple districts that included Yerim. He built and founded an organization called the Hero Clan based around his fame. In a matter of time, the clan that fought in the name of justice clashed with Nera in what historians would call the War of the Reeds or the Great War which redefines the terms of Heroes and Villains.

The Skysword participated in the war personally as he once annihilated a unit of Nera soldiers [3] but amongst thousands of the battles that took place, the clan claimed victory in two but vital battles that shifted the tide of the war.
As they claimed victory, Nera ceased to exist with the Skysword ordering the banning of the word - "Nera". Thus began the Age of Heroes and Villains, at some point, the Skysword would start to be referred to as the "Master of the Clan".

Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]
The Master is seen training his swordsmanship and meets with his student, Claymore. As they cross swords in a sparring match, the Master senses an unusual determination in his student, wondering if it stems from the loss of his comrades.
Claymore, agitated by the remark, falters in his technique and is swiftly defeated, dropping to his knees. The Master observes that, despite his grief, Claymore has gained something he once lacked. He acknowledges that sending him to Dust City was the right decision.
But Claymore rebuffs this notion, rejecting the idea that his fallen friends were mere stepping stones to improve his swordsmanship. The Master agrees but points out that, in the end, that’s exactly what happened. Thanks to this growth, the Master finally deems Claymore worthy of learning the Skysword's special techniques. Knowing his student would never turn down the chance to gain the power to uphold "justice," asking how Claymore feels about it.
As Claymore reflects on how his master has always been this way, their reunion is abruptly interrupted. Hitmen from the Dusty Cloaks appear, and Number Three boldly challenges the Master to a duel. However, the Skysword effortlessly slays them all and immediately accuses Bishop of sending the assassins. Without hesitation, he orders Claymore to inform all District Managers that they must choose a side in the coming civil war.
With the clan fracturing, war erupting between heroes, and the Smiling Man’s announcement of New Nera’s resurrection. Claymore escorts the Loyalists of the Master to his teacher among them Dalia Mendoza The Punisher, Narkle Encilion, Paladin, Azure Dragon, and Highnoon. The Master gives a speech and entrusts them with stopping Engen and the Villains, the Master readies himself for a decisive confrontation with Bishop.[4]
