Nanzu (난주) is a member of the Hero Clan's Black Hand and the Second Finger (두 번째 손가락) of The Fingers, the six strongest members of the intelligence agency and direct executioners of the clan. While thought to be the former hero, Bone Blade, his true identity is that of the Previous Knight Commander of Avaarin (아바린의 전대 대전사장) , a former member of the Five Swordsmen, the strongest sword wielders in the world as well as the former teacher of Saulcai, the Prosecutor, whom he molded into a powerful warrior during the hero's youth and childhood.
Having acknowledged his student's prowess, Nanzu entrusted their people's treasured weapons, The Answerer to his former student. For unknown reasons, he faked his own death and abandoned his duties. He would kill Bone Blade and assume his identity to join the Hero Clan's Black Hand.
Appearance[]
Nanzu is a towering and imposing man, clad in the standard mask and uniform of the Black Hand. Beneath the mask, he is a striking older man with a well-groomed gray beard and long gray hair, parted in the middle. He carries his treasured sword on his back, a symbol of his past as a warrior despite his descent into the life of an assassin.
Personality[]
Nanzu is in parts a cold-hearted assassin and a swordsman that takes pride in his swordsmanship and pride. Once a respected warrior, he was held in high regard by his student, Salucai, and strongly believed in the Avaarin ideals of warriors. However, in pursuit of freedom from the Tower of Milen Kula he abandoned the path of a warrior, murdered a respected hero and descended from the Blade Mountains. But as he himself never realized what he desired, he became a cold-hearted man with no attachments, ultimately ending up as an assassin, willing to carry out the bidding of the Hero Clan and Agent Number Seven. Never realizing that what was most precious for him was his freedom all along.
Despite forsaking his warrior’s way, Nanzu still holds a deep admiration for the romanticism of the sword and only respects those truly dedicated to its mastery.[1] To test Hero Killer’s abilities, he deliberately took a strike from the young villain later taunting her with a message from Seven regarding the way her sister died, provoking the Hero Killer into delivering a serious attack that he acknowledged to be worthy of a true sword wielder.
History[]

At an unknown point in time, Nanzu was chosen by Avaarin to be his generation's "Knight Commander" due to his prowess as a swordsman and warrior centuries ago.
Mentoring a Successor[]
At a certain point around the Era of Nera, Nanzu became a teacher to a young boy named Saulcai. Nanzu molded the talented youth into a powerful warrior, and when Saulcai came of age, the Knight Commander personally gifted his former student his Avaarian helmet. The Knight also entrusted Saulcai with The Answerer, the treasured weapons of their people.[2]
Desertion[]

Centuries into the Age of Heroes and Villains, Nanzu decided to abandon his duties and descend from the Bladed Mountains.
Traveling near the Hero Clan's border territory along the outskirts of Castle Gray, Nanzu murdered a popular hero known as Bone Blade in an ambush and faked his death to frame the now-dead hero, staging it so he could use the hero's identity.
He then joined the ranks of Black Hand, the clan's intelligence and assassination agency. Now known under the identity of Bone Blade, the former Knight Commander rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Second Finger of The Fingers, the strongest assassins within the clan, and leaders of the agency.[3]
Operation Dusk[]

During Operation Dusk, Nanzu was assigned to assassinate the Sixth Finger, Kasha, along with 51 other Black Hand Agents. He confronted her along with the other members after tracking her down in Dust City. After 30 minutes, Kasha had managed to kill over 47 of them, leaving only Nanzu, along with Majesty, Saint Light, Immortal, and Agent Number Seven left. After a fierce battle, Nanzu, along with Agent Number Seven, managed to mortally wound and kill her.[4] However, before they finish her off at some point during the battle Yushin, the former Elder, arrived and intervened as he fought them off[5].
Story[]
Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]
Nanzu is seen meeting with Dalia Mendoza, the Punisher amongst a field of reeds sometime after her failed mission to capture and kill the Villains Chain and Hero Killer.
The two assassins become confused while trying to remember the events of Operation Dusk as Nanzu remembers the operation failing twice in its history and Yushin's appearance but Mendoza remembering the silver-haired woman being killed.
War of Disbandment Arc[]
Nanzu attends the meeting of the Fingers to introduce the new Sixth Finger to Dalia Mendoza after the failure of her mission to eliminate the Smiling Man.[6]
