Fraxinus Floribunda of Castle Gray...Is said to last a Thousands years in Life, another Thousand years in Death!! This Era!!! Shall Only Remember Me at the Absolute Peak of My Powers!!!

— The Mad Elder's Final Words.

Reagan Sinclair (레긴 싱클레어), also known as The Mad Elder, was an extremely powerful Gift user and a member of the Elders, the nine strongest Gift users in the world. He was the previous District Lord of Castle Gray, a harsh land of snow and blood that he ruled with brutality and an iron fist.

The Head of House Sinclair, he was the father of Raxfer Sinclair, Razenia Sinclair, and the biological father of Rachel Sinclair, and numerous other unnamed children that he fathered throughout his long life.

Reagen was initially mentioned through Rachel's memory of losing her entire family to the tyrannical Elder before appearing in the background of The Torch Arc, where he supported Jintae Yang and his gang. He would make his official appearance as the central antagonist of the Assault on Castle Gray Arc in which he welcomed Engen's challenge against him and fought the Smiling Man in the Invasion of Castle Gray. Defeated in the end, he was swiftly beheaded by Rachel who mounted his head on the highest peak.

Appearance[]

Reagan was a tall man with dirty blond hair, black eyelashes, and blond eyebrows. His eyes, originally purple, gained a yellow pattern resembling flower petals around the pupils after awakening his Gift. He had visible eyebags under his eyes, and his once bright skin had turned slightly grey over the centuries. Stubble covered both his chin and upper lip. In most depictions, he wore a long brown trench coat, a white button-up shirt, and black slacks.

Personality[]

Disappointing answer. Because that's the first quality...of becoming an Elder.

— To Engen.

Reagan was the cruelest of the Elders, surpassing even the more combative figures like Victoria. He was a deeply disturbing and delusional sociopath, broken by centuries of isolation and loss, which eroded his sanity. Unlike others like Yushin, who merely looked down on their subjects, Reagan saw his retainers and the citizens of his land as mere test subjects. He made it taboo to leave Castle Gray, treating his people as living experiments rather than individuals. He showed no interest in their welfare, carrying out excessively harsh punishments for even the smallest infractions.

Unfazed by the prospect of war, Reagan eagerly opened the gates of his lands to face any opponents. His cruelty extended even to his own family and close allies, whom he subjected to cruel experiments for years. Aside from his cruelty, Reagan believed in selective "gardening." He cultivated the Gifts of his people by forcing them into deadly competitions or mortal danger, allowing only a single "flower" to bloom among them.

In his youth, Reagan was a bright man who enjoyed a steady, peaceful life in his village and loved his family deeply, fighting to protect them from the dangers of the Chaotic Era.[2]

Even in his final moments, Reagan displayed the persistence befitting an Elder, refusing to give up in his fight with Engen. He kept looking forward, never considering failure, and took pride in the strength he held as a ruler for centuries, demanding the world remember him at the peak of his power.[3]

History[]

A Farmer and the Chaotic Era[]

The man known as Reagan Sinclair was born to a tenant farmer's family in a small village centuries ago in the Chaotic Era. He began his life peacefully cultivating the crops of their lands, dedicating his time and effort to a typical farmer's life. Content with his life, Reagan was beloved by his neighbors and the other villagers, especially among the young ladies. One of them would fall in love with him one day and the two became betrothed as they were soon married, with the entire village celebrating their union with a festival.

Now a husband, Reagan soon became a father with his first son being born, followed by his second son and daughter. Reagan saw his children grow, having watched them record their heights by craving them into the family's garden tree. As the years slowly but surely continued, Reagan realized that he wasn't aging at all unlike his family, but he wasn't completely surprised, having known that he was different from others.

Although his life had been peaceful up until that point, the flames of strife soon swept through his village as raiders attacked. Reagan led the villagers to fight back with him, managing to drive the invaders away. However, his eldest son was among the casualties, presumably along with his loved ones. Unfortunately, the attacks continued for the next few decades.

When the onslaught had finally been quelled, Reagan's daughter was already on her deathbed from old age. He considered taking his life out of despair, but his daughter asked him to promise her to stay alive. This promise would mark the tragic beginning of the rest of his life.

Awakening and Thousand years of Solitude[]

Cursed with an unnaturally long lifespan, Reagan spent the next few centuries sitting under the tree his children once played under. The villagers eventually forgot his original identity and named him "Reagan" after the tree instead. While he would occasionally find new family and new loved ones, or become attached to those who approached him, the difference between their lifespans meant that they would either die or eventually shun him, leaving him alone in the end.

The repeated loss and loneliness caused Reagan to spiral into a deep depression to the point of being suicidal, but he held back from taking his life always remembering his promise to his daughter. As a result, it became a curse to him as he became more and more hollow.

Centuries later, his village was once again destroyed while he was away. This pushed Reagan to climb a nearby mountain to ask God why he was being tested as he shouted at the heavens. However, when he received no response, it became the straw that broke the camel's back, causing all the pain and grief he had endured to culminate and awaken his Gift. As his power grew by the day, others started following him as they coveted his strength despite his reluctance.

The Elders and Creating a God[]

After the Chaotic Era, Reagan was crowned an Elder due to his immense powers as a Gift user. He came to rule over Castle Gray, a desolate and harsh snow-covered land, and became infamous for his power after defeating it's previous District lord.

Later on, a group of pirates docked at Castle Gray with Victoria leading them, intending to fight Reagan as she had heard rumors of him being called a "god". They were confronted by a knight, whom Galeramdt Garagh one of Victoria's followers accidentally killed. Her crew then drank and party until Reagan eventually showed up, beginning the duel with Victoria.

You said I can build a confined universe here and rule over it all I want...and that still wouldn't turn me into a God. In fact, regardless of how powerful anyone can be...It's impossible to stop the inevitable flow of time. But even if it is, I will still try to become a God myself, If I can't become one...I will create one.

It's unknown what the result of the battle was but the two Elders seemed to be on amicable terms afterward. Victoria was satisfied knowing that Reagan was not a true god, and Reagan in turn questioned what "god" meant to her. This led to a conversation about gods, with Reagan revealing his desire to control the flow of time, and his determination to create a god if he could not become one.[4] In another meeting with a fellow "star", Reagen was once told by Yushin about how even the smallest of needles can kill a person which the Mad Elder took to heart.

Meeting the Witch[]

Reagan's activities during the Era of Nera and the following War of Inheritance were unknown, however, at some point he met The Steel Witch after her destruction of Nera. This meeting provided him even more zeal in his attempts to create a "God" as he became more ruthless towards his subjects, seeking to recreate the Witch's god-like abilities. It is also assumed that he kept to himself during the Great War between the newly created Hero Clan and the remaining Villains of Nera.

The Mad Elder[]

In the Age of the Heroes and Villains, Reagan became known for his numerous affairs with women, seeking to create more Gift users but mostly to enjoyed himself. Through these unions, he fathered three children that he openly acknowledged: an unnamed oldest son, Raxfer, the middle son, and Razenia, his oldest daughter.

However, he ignored or neglected many of his other illegitimate children, one of whom was Rachel, a daughter born from a former gardener he once favored. Reagan's subordinate, Highwind, once remarked that he likely had hundreds of illegitimate children scattered across Castle Gray.[5]

Although he acknowledged his children, they were not spared from his cruelty. At one point, he had a falling out with Razenia and imprisoned her. He also banished Raxfer and used his sister as leverage to force him into obedience.[6]

Story[]

District 17 Assault Arc[]

Reagan is mentioned for the first time as he is thought of by his illegitimate daughter, Rachel Sinclair.

The Torch Arc[]

Reagan is revealed to be the backer of Jintae Yang and his gang.

Nostra City Arc[]

Reagan is briefly mentioned by his fellow Elders during their summit. Reagan refused to attend the meeting as he had no interest in Bishop and the Skysword's civil war, nor Prim's attempt to stop it.

Assault on Castle Gray Arc[]

Upon hearing the news that Jintae had acquired The Torch, Reagan prepared Castle Gray for invasion, opening the gates of his lands to welcome the Villains led by Engen the Smiling Man. He utilized his experiments to defend the castle while sending his subordinates to carry out other tasks. Eventually, Reagan confronted Engen at the main keep, where the two clashed, resulting in Reagan's defeat. After a brief conversation about her mother, Rachel beheaded him.
