— Gundar to Skysword's Disciple on the swordsmanship. |
The Shadowless Blade (무영검 (無影劍) is a swordsmanship style that allows its practitioner to wield their swords in an efficient and direct style of combat that's meant solely for killing their opponent without regard for personal feelings.[1] Created by Yushin, the master swordsman and former Elder, the swordsmanship has been his main fighting style for centuries.
Overview[]
The Shadowless Blade was created by the master swordsman Yushin, who devoted his life to finding ways of efficiently killing humans.[2] The swordsmanship's principle is efficiency. It places a high emphasis on speed and agility, as the style seems to lack defensive techniques. As such, the user needs to use their superior speed to overwhelm or bypass their opponent's defenses while using their agility to evade and defend against counterattacks. Due to this, the user is likened to a "ferocious beast" that risks its life to hunt its prey.
The style has dual wielding, single sword techniques, and quick draw techniques. It's a relatively free style that doesn't seem to have a set form, the user can use a reverse grip, a standard grip, or both at once if they are dual wielding. The user may even throw their sword if it serves to corner their opponent. The main techniques are all based on generating reddish-black flying EST slashes from the user's sword swings.
History[]
Centuries after his defeat against the Skysword, Yushin decided not to pass on the Shadowless Blade to his student, Ihwa. He intended to prevent her from developing habits in her fighting style and instead take on a more freestyle form of fighting that relied on other forms of combat aside from sword fighting.
