WARNING! |
Shards are weapons or items that are created or found with Gifts or EST of their own. These objects are notable for the unique abilities that they grant to their users, including ordinary humans.[1]
Overview[]
Shards have appeared throughout history, each with unique origins. While the exact method of creating them varies, they have been part of human history for centuries, possibly since the dawn of Gifts and Gift users.
Abilities of Shards.
Shards are extremely powerful, allowing an ordinarily non-EST human to wield a Gift or granting an additional Gift to a Gift user, particularly one without combat-based powers. However, Shards are rare and valuable, sparking greed and conflict among those who seek them. As a result, they are often wielded by influential figures or renowned combatants.
Shards can be categorized into three types: weapons that significantly enhance a warrior's combat abilities, items with special abilities of varying types, and locations with specific functions.
History[]
Chaotic Era[]
During the strife and war-torn era, Shards became prominent, wielded by notable figures. One such individual was the swordsman known as The Executioner of the Silver Forest, famed for his three unique swords, including the demonic blade Ashiyak. This blade, both immensely powerful and cursed, was one of his signature weapons, alongside two others.
Another swordsman gained fame for wielding the One Hundred-Sided Blade, a powerful Shard sword known for its exceptional cutting power and the ability to adapt according to the user's imagination. He became known as The Master of the Glassblade and went on to create the Ancient Sword Technique of the Flowing Blade, a fighting style unique to the Shard sword.
The Fiend of the Southern Continent also became famous for wielding a formidable collection of Shards, earning her a reputation for possessing immensely powerful Shards.
Era of Nera[]
A man whose life was marked by tragedy and despair experienced a dramatic transformation when he discovered a mysterious Shard while exploring a forgotten ruin. Using its powers, he laid waste to the lands and founded a dominion he named Nera, meaning "Torch" in the Ancient Language.
Great War[]
During the war between the remaining Villains of Nera and emerging Hero Clan, a scientific process known as "Grafting" was invented by a group of scientists with ties to the clan. These scientists experimented on numerous test subjects in a horrific research program known as the Shard Transplant Experiment that could artificially graft on to or implant a shard into a test subject.[2]
Trivia[]
- Chain's Ring was the first Shard to appear in the series. Although it's abilities wouldn't be revealed till the Nostra City Arc.
