The Master of the Glassblade was a famous swordsman and the previous wielder of the One-Hundred-Sided-Blade. He was a master swordsman that created the Ancient Sword Technique of the Flowing Blade, a powerful unorthodox swordsmanship style centered around the shard's abilities and the former mentor of Jintae Yang, the infamous Villain.

The Master first appeared in flashbacks within Jintae's memories during the Hero Candidate Arc, where he clashed against his disciple when he rebelled in wanting the One-Hundred-Sided-Blade, but allowed himself to be killed by his student as he knew that the young villain would show the world their swordsmanship's true power.

Appearance[]

The master was an old man with long white hair greyed from years of age that was tied in a ponytail and an equally long beard. He had deep black eyes his face covered in wrinkles along with thick eyebrows. For clothing, he wore white traditional clothing that appeared to be baji pants with a jokki vase and white taesahye-looking shoes that mimic real-world Korea from antiquity.

Personality[]

The Master was an interesting man.

History[]

Nothing is known about the master's early life, but he was likely born in the days of Chaotic Era as he was already an old man by the time of the Age of Heroes and Villains. He came into the ownership of a powerful shard, the One Hundred-Sided Blade that was famous for shaping itself to its wielder's imagination and created his own style of unorthodox swordsmanship called the Ancient Sword Technique of the Flowing Blade that focused on the blade's abilities.

The following has yet to be officially authenticated but is assumed to have happened.

Jintae's Question to his Master

Jintae and his Master.

During the Master's later stages of his long life, he founded own dojo school dubbed the Hall of the Living Sword (活剣堂) where he taught the Ancient Sword Technique of the Flowing Blade to disciples in the Age of Heroes and Villains. At one point, he would take in and teach a young man named Jintae Yang, a Gift user.

The master was once asked by Jintae on what the point of learning how to sheathe one’s during combat and he explains the nature of the One Hundred-Sided Blade’s abilities.

He elaborated that the sword’s potential isn’t that it’s translucent but that it forms a shape according to the wielder’s desires. To manifest that it needs to be pulled from its sheath thus the Ancient Sword Technique of the Flowing Blade swordsmanship was created to wield the shard.

A decade later, Jintae started desiring the One Hundred-Sided Blade and wanted it for himself. He would convince the other disciples to join him and started a rebellion against their master. On the night of a bright full moon, they killed all those who opposed them and confronted the master.

The master asked Jintae if he decided to abandon his morals just to attain the sword that badly, but Jintae refutes him by saying that isn’t the fact that he can’t part ways with it, a sign of his greed. Jintae then tells his master that he and his conspirators have decided to determine who shall own the blade once they take the blade from him by force. Tonight, the lone survivor shall become the owner of the sword.

The master, accepting the situation, tells Jintae that they should go outside if he is to die, he wishes to die under the moonlight. Jintae accepts while turning his back, but the master then unsheathes the One Hundred-Sided Blade and unleashes a widespread giant slash that destroys the nearby buildings of the dojo while also killing the other disciples.

The master, finishing off one last disciple, asks why Jintae couldn’t wait at least ten more years before his death as the exchange strikes. The master then lectures Jintae to remind him that his pride will bring misfortune and asks if he truly thinks that he deserves to become the wielder of One Hundred-Sided Blade.

The master questions Jintae’s claim that only the owner of the blade will descend the mountain and proclaims that the blade is his as he smiles. He then prepares to give Jintae one final lesson on his way to the underworld.

The details of their fight aren't fully known but Jintae realized that his skills and ability didn’t stand a chance against him as the master intentionally let himself be killed. Jintae asks the master why he died for him, and the master states that it was only a matter of time before Jintae would’ve surpassed him. And that Jintae would show the world the might of their swordsmanship whether he wished to or not. The Master laughs manically as he dies with a blade and sheath in his hands in a pool of blood.

Story[]

Hero Candidate Arc[]

Jintae would think back to the events of his rebellion against the Master and how he gained the One Hundred-Sided Blade during his infiltration of the Hero Clan's Hero Trials. Ironically, he would think back on the Master's advice on their techniques in his fight with the Smiling Man, Engen.

The Torch Arc[]

After striking a deal of cooperation with the Smiling Man, Jintae once again thinks about the Master's teachings. In a flashback, the Master tells Jintae that those who are born with superior innate powers are naturally inclined to be overly confident, further elaborating that one may best even the strongest adversaries, should they strike them when their pride is at its peak.[2]
