Vector (벡터), also known by his real name Resa Roanoke (레사 로아노크), is a Villain and a former member of the Nameless, a villainous organization led by the Smiling Man as the group's doctor and mode of transportation before leaving due to moral differences with Engen following the Invasion of Castle Gray.

Before becoming a Villain, he was once a member of the Hero Clan's science and research division that was involved with the Project Newborn, a gruesome research project designed to create Gift users in his desire to save his sister, Roanoke during the days of Great War.

However, despite experimenting on countless victims he failed to save her. Guilt-ridden for his role in the horrific program, he escaped the clan and met Engen with John Nash, a victim of the project, years after the war's end. He would join the Nameless for the chance to witness and play a role in the Smiling Man's renewed war against the clan as an active 'spectator'.

Vector was introduced in the District 17 Assault Arc, where he and the Nameless helped save Hero Killer after she was nearly killed by the 17th Division's heroes and to announce their return to the public and the Hero Clan.

Appearance[]

Resa is a strikingly handsome man with short, middle-greyish hair styled in a messy, unkempt, and wild manner. He has slender-looking eyes with matching grey eyelashes, and his intense, piercing eyes glow a bright sky-blue whenever he uses his EST. In his childhood, he was known as the local pretty boy, according to Kkulbeol and Beolkkul.[1]

His facial features were initially a mystery, as he perpetually wore a black radiation gas mask that completely concealed his face. Resa very rarely removed it, only doing so while eating or after the exhausting fight with Bishop.

Despite his youthful appearance, Resa is actually very old, having been born around a century ago. In terms of clothing, he typically wore a white doctor's lab coat over casual T-shirts decorated with various stylized designs, paired with modern clothing such as overcoats. After his falling out with Engen and departure from the Nameless, Resa covered his injured face with bandages, but following his recovery, he discarded the bandages. Resa would adopt a new look consisting of a sleek black suit worn with a black shirt and tie underneath.

Personality[]

Resa is likely the only member among the Villains who isn't abnormal, completely ruthless, or outright insane.

He is generally calm and composed but can become easily excitable, both positively and negatively, when situations escalate. Despite the many eccentricities, unconventional mindsets, and ruthless methods of his former comrades in the Nameless, Resa genuinely cares about them. He is not afraid to voice his opinions, having once told Engen never to put him in a position where he would have to choose between harming civilians and stepping in to stop it. This moment highlights that Resa still retains remnants of his former heroic ideals from his days with the Hero Clan.

However, Resa also carries a deep burden of guilt for his involvement in Project Newborn. This overwhelming guilt once manifested as an inner voice that whispered to his consciousness, haunting him.[2]

Etymology[]

  • Resa: is a name of uncertain origin, but it could be derived from the Hebrew name Rosa (meaning "rose"), or it could be a short form of names like Theresa (meaning "harvest"). It could also be a variation of Reza, a Persian name meaning "contentment" or "satisfaction."
  • Roanoke: is a surname of Native American origin, specifically from the Powhatan language. It is believed to mean "shell money" or "wampum" (a form of currency made from shells used by Native American tribes in the Chesapeake Bay area). The name is famously associated with the Roanoke Colony, an English colony in the Americas that mysteriously disappeared in the late 16th century. This historical connection adds an air of mystery and lost history to the name.
  • Combining both, Resa Roanoke evokes an image of someone who carries a sense of beauty or peace (from Resa) alongside a mysterious, possibly tragic or historical past (from Roanoke). The name suggests a character with depth, someone who may be tied to both internal peace or fulfillment and external circumstances that involve complex, possibly lost histories.
  • Vector means "Carry, Carrier".

Trivia[]

  • Vector and John already knew each other before joining the Nameless.
  • Vector was the second oldest of the Nameless.
  • Vector usually played the role of the straight man in the Nameless 'antics.
  • Vector's blood is Baek-Ji's favorite snack.
  • While the weakest in the Nameless when it came to combat, Vector has the largest amount of EST aside from Engen, Rachel, and Ihwa.
